What we collect, and what we do with it. Last updated August 2026.
This describes how It’s a Dollar actually handles your information, in plain language. It isn’t legal advice, and hasn’t been reviewed by a lawyer — treat it as a starting point, not a finished legal document.
What we collect
When you join, we collect your first name, last name, and email address. Your payment details (card number, etc.) are entered directly on Stripe’s hosted checkout page — they go straight to Stripe, and we never see or store your full card number.
How we use it
Your name and email create and identify your membership, send you your monthly voting link when a cycle is open, track referral points if you share your link, and (if you choose) send occasional announcements you can unsubscribe from independently.
Where it's stored
Membership data (name, email, points, referral code, vote history) is stored in our database, hosted on Neon and Vercel. Payment information is stored and processed entirely by Stripe. Emails are sent through Brevo.
Who else sees it
We share what's needed to run the service with:
Stripe — payment processing. Brevo — email delivery. Vercel and Neon — hosting and the database. Each has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data on our behalf. We don’t sell your information to anyone, for any reason.
Emails and unsubscribing
Vote-link and billing emails are part of membership itself, not marketing — they don’t have an unsubscribe link, the same way a receipt wouldn’t. Announcement emails are optional; every one includes a one-click unsubscribe link that stops future announcements without affecting your membership or vote emails.
How long we keep it
We keep your membership information for as long as you're a member, and for a reasonable period afterward for our own records. Canceling your membership through the Manage page stops billing; if you'd like your data deleted entirely, contact us and we'll take care of it.
Your choices
You can update or remove your information, or ask what we have on file, by contacting us. You can cancel your membership yourself at any time via the Manage your membership page.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of storage or transmission over the internet is completely secure.
Changes
We may update this policy as the service changes. We'll update the date at the top when we do.
